JP Atray tournament to get underway from September 15

The 17th Edition of All India JP Atray Memorial Cricket Tournament will get underway from September 15 to 25 in Mohali,Chandigarh and Panchkula. The prestigious tournament will get rolling just before the Australian cricket team arrives in Chandigarh for the three-day tour game as well as first Test match against India. The timing of the tournament holds importance for the fringe players who can stake their claim in the Indian team by performing well in the Punjab Cricket Association backed JP Atray tournament. Matches will be played at the PCA Stadium Mohali,Sector 16 Cricket Stadium,Chandigarh,Tau Devi Lal Cricket Stadium Sector 3 Panchkula,DAV School Sector 8 Chandigarh,LIC Cricket Academy Sector 26 Chandigarh,St.John’s School Sector 26 Chandigarh and Dhruv Pandove Cricket Stadium in Patiala. According to Sushil Kapoor,organising secretary of the tournament,as many as 16 leading teams from all over the country are likely to take part in the tournament,which will be played on league cum knock out basis. All the matches will be of 50 overs each innings. The tournament carries a total cash prize of Rs. 3.00 lakh apart from the winners and runners-up trophies. The teams will be divided in four pools and top team from each pool will qualify for the semifinals.
